Liverpool John Moores University is committed to supporting Looked after Children and Care Leavers in their progression to higher education. The variety of programmes we offer enable students to come and experience what life at university would be like and hear first-hand about the support that is available to them.
Each Academic year, LJMU host a variety of widening participation events, specifically targeted at Looked after Children. These include LJMU’s pastoral mentoring programme in which current LJMU student’s work one on one with pupils right across the Merseyside region. The programme allows students aged from 14-18yrs to receive information, advice and guidance on what life is like at H.E level and making that transition from Sixth Form/College to University.
Such a programme of activities are run by our own Student Advocates, many of whom have been through the care system them-selves. They impart their knowledge of Higher Education and experience of student life to the young people, encouraging engagement in activities and raising motivation and aspirations to enter higher education.
