The workshop will take on an interactive round table discussion which looks at different areas institutions can work to improve higher education for care experienced learners. Mary Larkin from The Open University will be presenting, taking an approach of understanding the needs of care experienced learners. Priya Clark Widening Participation Officer at Queen Mary University will speak on carers experience in higher education and Andrew Rawson from Action on Access will explore what institutions are doing to support care experienced learners. Delegates will work in groups to discuss the issues and identify possible actions that could be implemented.
It is anticipated that delegates will leave with some practical actions to implement within their own organisation.
Titles of presentations include:
- Understanding the needs of care experienced learners
- Supporting Care experienced Learners, a local and national perspective
- Institutional Evidence, Policy and Practice: Care Experienced Learners
We also aim to have student representatives from our OU Carers and Dependencies group to contribute their experience to the workshop.
The event is free but places are restricted and will be offered on a first come, first served basis. If after registering, you are no longer able to attend, please let us know in order that we can reallocate your ticket.
