What information does NNECL collect?
National Network for the Education of Care Leavers (NNECL) collects personal information for the following purposes:
- Monthly e-newsletter
- Conference and training
- Management of the NNECL website and event listings
How does NNECL use this information?
The NNECL is hosted by the University of Winchester which acts as the data controller. Your data will be held and managed under the terms of the University's data protection policy: https://www.winchester.ac.uk/about-us/leadership-and-governance/policies-and-procedures/?download=true&id=133
We will only use your data for the purposes which the information has been provided. When this is by consent, you can withdraw at any time. We only hold your details for as long as it is required and will not pass personal details onto third parties without obtaining separate consent.
The legal basis for processing this data
Under the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) we must have a lawful basis for processing your information. This will vary depending on the circumstances we collect this data for, but may be for the following reasons:
- You have given us consent to process your information i.e. if you are receiving our newsletter
- You have a contract with NNECL, for example if you are paying to attend our conference or have paid a membership fee
How does NNECL process this data?
We use a third party, MailChimp, to manage and deliver our e-newsletter. If you have signed up to the newsletter you can unsubscribe, amend or withdraw your personal details at any time via the links in our newsletter footer or by contacting us directly. By providing your information you consent to NNECL using MailChimp as a processor for collecting and storing your data when distributing our newsletter.

Conference and training
We use a third party, Winchester Online Store, a service provided by WPM, to collect delegate information for our conferences and training. Website event listings
Personal information provided by an event organiser is used for the purpose of promoting the event and will not be used in any other way. NNECL will only include the event organiser’s business contact details on the activity page when this has been requested, otherwise website visitors will be able to get in touch via an anonymised enquiry form.
Our Activities page signposts activities for care-experienced students and those who support them. Activities are hosted by third parties who have consented to their events being listed on the website. Each activity clearly shows the event organiser within the event listing.
When visitors register their interest via the ‘book now’ or ‘register your interest’ buttons, the personal details are sent to the event organiser for processing. The event organiser is the data controller of this personal information and will process the information in line with their privacy terms. NNECL only receives a copy of enquiries sent via the ‘register your interest’ button which is kept for a limited time by NNECL for monitoring purposes only.
