40% of care leavers are not in education, employment or training, compared to just 15% of their peers. Yet with the right support in place they can achieve highly in further and higher education, and successfully progress into work. To ensure they get the support they need, NIACE and Buttle UK have published a guide for FE colleges and other learning providers.
Based on effective approaches across the UK, the guide showcases four colleges that achieved at exemplary level the prestigious accreditation of commitment to students from a care background, the Buttle UK Quality Mark, and a number of other colleges that developed effective practice to support better outcomes for care leavers.
The guide has been divided under the section headers of the Buttle UK Quality Mark Framework and provides examples of how colleges have met each of the requirements. It is accompanied by additional useful documents.
