The Fostering Network has an ongoing commitment to improving the implementation of Staying Put for young people leaving care and wishing to remain with their former foster carers.
They are currently in the process of collecting individual’s experiences of staying put to help build their ongoing campaign work. Please share the following link with young people and foster carers who might be happy to share their experiences of Staying Put. https://www.thefosteringnetwork.org.uk/shareyourstory
The Fostering Network has also published a report, Staying Put: An Unfulfilled Promise (Nov 2018) which looks at the staying put data from the State of the Nation survey. The survey results show that around a third of foster carers have been prevented from having a staying put arrangement despite the fact that the young person wanted to stay. The report calls for the Government to properly cost and fund staying put, and introduce a national staying put allowance.
The Fostering Network discuss this latest report in a podcast - Staying Put: An Unfulfilled Promise - which looks at Staying Put legislation four years on from its introduction in England to see how well it is enabling care experienced young people to remain living with their former foster family.
