09/11/2015THE CHRISTMAS DINNER 2015 – the project to give Christmas dinner to care leavers

The Christmas Dinner, founded by poet Lemn Sissay in 2013, is an organisation of artists, adult care leavers and social care professionals working together to provide the most scrumptious dinner on Christmas Day to young care leavers, aged between 16 and 30. As well as a home-cooked Christmas dinner, guests are gifted presents and treats donated by the public.

In 2015, events will take place in Hackney, Manchester, and for the first time, in Leeds

There are still a number of ways we need support across the UK:

Visit our Crowdfunder page – pledge; and share via twitter and facebook; encourage your friends to do the same!

Manchester Christmas Dinner:

Inviting guests: if you’re a care experienced young person, or know someone who is, you can be nominated to attend on the day. For a copy of the guest referral form, or for more information, please contact Sarah at Pure Insight on or 07595089787

Volunteering as a host: We need people to help in advance of the day, wrapping presents; peeling potatoes – all the usual preparation tasks needed to ensure Christmas Day goes with a sparkle. We also need hosts interested in assisting on the day. For information about being a host, contact

Gifts for Guests: We want to make this a special day for care leavers, and we hope to provide some gifts so guests feel special and cared about. We are also collecting non-perishable food to provide young people with hampers that will get them through the holiday season. If you are a company or individual wishing to donate gifts – please contact our gift coordinator
