The Social Mobility Foundation (SMF) supports ambitious young people from low-income backgrounds to access top universities and careers. They run programmes which are completely free of charge programmes and feature mentoring, internships with top companies, university application support, and professional development and skills workshops for high achieving young people across the UK.
The charity provides support in 11 professional sectors, including Law, Medicine and Accountancy. Students apply to join the programmes in Year 12 (England and Wales), Year 13 (Northern Ireland) and S5 (Scotland). Support continues from this point throughout university to help young people obtain graduate jobs.
The SMF is also running free employer and sector insight programmes for students interested in Finance or Digital with J.P. Morgan, Accountancy with KPMG, Engineering with BP, Business and Sustainability with PA Consulting, Digital with Neil Stevens Fellowship, Law Insight and Medicine Insight (please note that the Medicine Insight is open to applications from English students only). Students receive a mentor from the firm they will get an insight from, skills development workshops, university application advice, and if government guidance allows a face to face internship in London.
