Event Details

In this webinar, NNECL members University of Law and University of Sunderland will share how a whole institution approach as well as the language we use in higher and further education can impact on a young person from a care background.

We are delighted to be joined by Corin Barton (University of Law) and Wendy Price (University of Sunderland) who will give an overview of how their proactive and inclusive internal training, polices and programmes enable staff across their universities, to better support their learners from care, estranged and seeking asylum backgrounds.

Guest Speakers

  • Corin Barton, The University of Law: Corin Barton will outline the training offered to ULAW academic and business staff to enable them to better support students with care experience.  Corin will focus on areas including the use of language, academic support and classroom delivery.  Corin has lectured at ULAW for over twenty years and has personal experience as a foster carer, special guardian and adoptive parent.
  • Wendy Price OBE, is the Head of Widening Access and Participation at the University of Sunderland. Wendy will share how the 'We Care' programme provides a full lifecycle approach for supporting students at Sunderland. This includes training and a resource toolkit for academic and support staff, and an ‘opt in’ sharing agreement for students.
