The session will provide an insight into the data available to Virtual Schools and how it can be used to target resources more effectively. The aim is to bring improvements in service delivery, provide more effective support and challenge, and ensure our children and young people receive the best possible experience of education.

Speaker

Matthew Cooke is the Virtual School Head for Suffolk County Council. He is dedicated to improving the educational experiences and outcomes for all care experienced children and children with a social worker.

In this role, Matthew collaborates with education and social care partners to ensure these children receive optimal opportunities in their schooling. He also leads an initiative to support the employment of care leavers, known locally as ‘The Family Business’.

Matthew has been an active member of the National Association of Virtual School Heads (NAVSH), having served as its immediate past chair. His leadership within NAVSH reflects his commitment to addressing systemic challenges in children's social care and advocating for the educational needs of vulnerable pupils, particularly in the post-pandemic landscape.

Throughout his career, Matthew has been a strong advocate for the children within his remit, emphasising the importance of providing adequate support and resources to meet their unique educational needs.

He was a member of the Secretary of State's Attendance Action Alliance and sits on the Education Policy Committee for the Association of Directors of Children’s Services. Matthew Cooke's dedication to improving the educational outcomes of these children continues to drive positive change both in Suffolk and within the wider educational community.
