Shaunna is care experienced and a PhD researcher at Liverpool John Moores University. Shaunna joined NNECL in February 2025 to lead our Inspire Pilot and to support on our wider projects.
Shaunna was awarded first class in her BSc in Psychology in 2019 and a Distinction in her MSc in Brain and Behaviour (Neuroscience) in 2020. In 2021, she was awarded a Vice-Chancellor scholarship to undertake a three-year funded PhD titled “Pathways to Social Connectedness in Care Experienced People”. This project explores how early life experiences, including experiences of the care system, can influence sensitivity to social connectedness. Shaunna has been a keen advocate for care experienced people and has advocated for children's rights through her membership on several boards and organisations. This includes the Local Authority Corporate Parenting Board and the University Care Experienced and Estranged Board for NNECL Quality Mark.
Shaunna believes every care experienced person should be given the opportunity to thrive in life and feel empowered to access post-16 education.
