Shilla Shomai is a PhD student and is passionate about promoting social mobility.
Her research examines the experiences of Care Leaver parents in Scotland compared to those in England.
Shilla has previously used her care experience to influence governmental policies and practices and advance the educational and social outcomes for care-experienced young people and care leavers. Previously, Shilla worked as an ambassador for Who Cares? Scotland, delivering corporate parenting and keynote speeches to audiences including the Scottish Parliament, United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) members, Commission on Widening Access Board, Scottish Legal Aid Board, NHS, and Colleges & Universities across Scotland.
Shilla is passionate about building bridges across social divides and improving care leavers’ access & participation in higher education.
